Yizhak Toledano, CEO at Sky Development, founded the real estate development firm in 2006 and has since earned the reputation of being a true market visionary. He brought a lifetime of experience in the real estate and construction business to the new company as well as an intricate working knowledge of finance and banking. Sky Development, originally called Skyrise Development Group, makes timely acquisitions of properties and develops and restructures both residential and commercial buildings. The full service development group also provides market assessment, asset management, incentive strategy and public funding. By the second year of operation, the company owned about 20 properties, and had initiated construction of residential structures, hotels and offices including mixed-use urban dwellings.
Born in Israel, Yizhak Toledano became interested in his father’s general contracting company at an early age and worked in the business for seven years before relocating to the US in 2000. From that time he has been involved in the full spectrum of the real estate market, including development, finance and mortgages. He enjoys a strong standing in the financial community and has closed substantial transactions with such companies as Merrill Lynch and Key Bank. He has developed a unique niche in the real estate industry by understanding the importance of timing by anticipating the market, investing in high growth segments and then, with an eye to the future, moving on to the next successful market. By understanding the trends and investing carefully, he has been able to build up a strong portfolio of solid properties.
Based in Aventura, Florida, Yizhak Toledano won the Visionary Development Award in 2007 for the City Park Aventura, a multi-use planned community. The project, involving a Spanish architect, was the first of its kind in Aventura and offered residents the opportunity to live, work and enjoy free time in the self-contained community. The unique concept in living included different styles of residences as well as retail and office space and a hotel.
With years of experience working in the banking industry, Yizhak Toledano became one of the 50 shareholders in the new Marquis Bank. He owns a 9.9% interest in the bank and holds a position on the Advisory Board of Directors. Established in 2007, the bank’s specialty is in loans to small businesses and private banking.
Giving Back to the Community
Yizhak Toledano’s donation of $3 million to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is the largest single donation ever received by the foundation. The money is earmarked for the hospital’s expansion program and to help promote pediatric care in South Florida. As a leading full-service hospital, it was one of the two highest ranked hospitals in the nation for its quality of care. In addition to his contributions to the hospital, Yizhak Toledano is also a continual supporter of K’far Chabad, based in Israel.
Yizhak Toledano grew up in Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces before moving to the US. He is married and the father of six children, currently making his home in Broward County, Florida.
