Full bio

As CEO of Luminate, Bob leads the company towards realizing its vision of making images interactive. Bob's technology career spans over 20 years, during which he played key roles as executive, entrepreneur, and venture capitalist.

As a General Partner at venture capital firm Matrix Partners, Bob invested in numerous startup companies. He has served on the Boards of companies which went public and got acquired by IBM, Cisco, and HP, among others.

Bob worked at Netscape Communications from 1995-1999, and served as senior vice president and general manager of its browser division. He led Netscape's famous "browser wars," while managing all engineering and product management for browsers, email clients, and HTML editors that garnered 100 million users and pioneered the widespread consumer adoption of the Internet.

In 1998, Bob embraced open source and launched mozilla.org, which represented the first time a major commercial software company adopted an open source strategy. Today, Mozilla and its Firefox browser continue to advance the cause of an open internet, while Bob serves on the board of directors of the Mozilla Foundation.

Prior to Netscape, Bob was vice president of marketing at startup Collabra Software. At Apple, Bob launched and managed the ClarisWorks product line. And as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, Bob advised Silicon Valley technology companies on IPOs and M&A.

Bob attended Stanford University, where he earned MBA, MA, and BA degrees, and did graduate studies in Computer Science.
