Blogging platform Posterous has raised a $4.4 million Series A round of funding from Redpoint Ventures, Trinity Ventures, and a few angel investors: SV Angel, Founder Collective, Lowercase Capital, Brian Pokorny, Aydin Senkut, XG Ventures. Satish Dharmaraj, a partner at Redpoint, led the round and joins the company's board of directors.Posterous
A Y Combinator company founded in 2008 as a simple service for users to post pictures online, Posterous had previously raised $740,000, primarily from angel investors.

Currently, the San Francisco-based startup provides a blogging service so simple that getting started doesn't even involve a traditional registration process. Users simply email photos, videos, MP3s, or other files to post@posterous.com and a personalized page (http://yourname.posterous.com) is automatically created with the content attached in the email. New posts can be created simply by replying to the confirmation email Posterous returns to the user.

The company says it sees 12 million unique monthly visitors and 25 million page views per month. And in 2009, the site grew by 30% each month.

Now, after having received its biggest boost in funding yet, Posterous wants the world to know about its long-term goal:

"Our goal is to become synonymous with 'posting' just like Google is synonymous with 'search.' Doesn’t matter if it’s for Twitter or a blog, private or public, group or individual. if you need it online, you go to Posterous."

Currently, the company places no restrictions on usage, storage, CSS customization, or personal domain use and all accounts are free. Later this year, however, Posterous will launch paid pro accounts which will be able to employ Javascript and site monetization.

I thought that number seemed off at first. Thanks for the heads up.
