Over a weekend dinner party, I struck up a conversation about Rick Warren, and how I thought his prayer at President Barack Obama's inauguration should or shouldn't go. (See my post on Obama's historic coverage and inauguration)
Rick Warren is the founder and senior pastor of Saddleback Church, an evangelical megachurch. He's also famous for his book A Purpose Driven Life.
The dinner conversation was short-lived.But today, it seems the conversation goes on. Thanks to Twitter.
Warren's presence at the inauguration was and remains a hot-button topic. While press reports on Google News suggest he didn't go over any lines, there's definitely some angst over at Twitter.
Here's the latest:

Personally, I found Warren's speech rather bland and forgettable. Looks like he was heavily edited beforehand, to make sure he said absolutely nothing controversial. Overall, I was rather disappointed with the "entertainment" portion of the event leading up to Obama's speech. The only thing that really moved me was Aretha Franklin's rendition of America the Beautiful; otherwise, the speeches and the original composition played by Ma and Perlman was bland, and even Obama's speech bordered on the cliché. Later, the poem read was bland and meandering. The "production value" seemed to have been inspired by American Idol and I half-expected Ryan Seacrest to host the show. Why not? He seems to host every other television event.
