Wind generators have been around for centuries but, Mariah Power, a company based in Reno, Nevada, has developed a very unique wind appliance - a vertical axis generator called "Windspire." It is 30 ft high and 2 ft wide, and costs under $4,000.

The product is designed in a way that it can be easily installed and can begin generating power in winds up to 8 mph. Hence, anyone can power their homes or businesses with minimal assistance.

Mike Hess says that the product is especially great for developing countries because they all have the same "advantage" - poor grid infrastructure. So power can be generated anywhere without the need of big transmission lines.

Mariah Power is starting its volume manufacturing in Ohio and is currently shipping products locally and internationally.
