Wolfgang's Vault founder and CEO William Sagan's description of the site as the home of the history of live music performance on the Web is no exaggeration.

The site hosts more than 1,000 live concerts spanning more than 30 years of performances, and has another 4,000 that is has yet to make available.

All of these were acquired for "between $5 million and $6 million" in 2002 from the archived vault of rock concert promoter Bill Graham, whose birth name was Wolfgang Grajonca.

The site also hosts a wide range memorabilia, from late-1960s rock poster art to T-shirts to the contract that shows when Janis Joplin played The Fillmore in San Francisco for the first time, she was paid less than $500.

That's according to Sagan, whose enthusiasm for Wolfgang's Vault is infectious.

"These performers were remarkable, and what they did in the early days of rock-n-roll was amazing," he says.
