NHRA Division 5 - It’s a Wrap!

NHRA Division 5 racing kicked into high gear on Friday, September 9, 2011, with the West Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Tri-State Raceway. Teams in 11 classes traveled to Earlville, Iowa, looking to make their mark in a quarter mile.

Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars were the event’s main attractions, with qualifying runs on Friday and Saturday, and eliminations on Sunday to crown champions. Local favorite, Richard Putz from Earlville, was looking for his second win of the year in Top Alcohol Dragster, while points leader Randy Meyer hoped to hold onto his lead in the West Central Division.

The Division 5 class continues to be something race fans should try not to miss. Each winner at Tri-State Raceway for the NHRA West Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event was handed a check for their share of the events purse and contingency postings, along with enough bragging rights to turn their competitors a nice shade of green with envy. Drivers also received a champion’s trophy. While this event was the final in the West Central Division, teams can continue to earn points toward national championships in Lucas Oil racing.
