As much as I would like to pretend I write purely for myself and no one else, but if that were the case, I wouldn’t be so quick to censor myself before I wrote things like “f*ck muffin” and “sh*t shoveler.” But I do, and it’s a routine drudgery that goes unrecognized every day. Today, a new product has debuted to help writers connect with more readers. Eightfold Logic, an inbound marketing company, has launched InboundWriter, a cloud-based social writing application that helps bloggers and content creators generate and optimize content that’s more relevant to their readers. Additionally, the company is announcing its $2 million Series C funding from existing investors Rho Canada Ventures, Castile Ventures, Formative Ventures, and The Entrepreneurs' Fund III.

As many writers know, it does little good to write something as a public document if no one is reading. To get the eyeballs to your content, InboundWriter scours relevant business- and user-generated content, such as blogs, product reviews, search engines, social networking sites, and message boards to find out what people are reading and which words and phrases are most popular among your target audience.

InboundWriter then suggests certain terms to increase your content’s popularity. For example, if you write about hybrid cars, or you’re a clean tech startup that wants to get more visitors to your website, InboundWriter will suggest terms like “hybrid cars,” “fuel efficiency,” “rechargeable battery packs,” and more in order of most popular.

To optimize your content, the service offers tips and guidance on how to write for specific sites, like Facebook, blogs, search engines, Twitter, or LinkedIn, and provides feedback on how you can improve your content and generate more traffic by adding more relevant keywords or removing some keywords to keep your content from looking too spammy.

And finally, the service lets you manage your documents by seeing exactly how your content stacks up with what your audience is reading. To do this, InboundWriter actually scores your content on potential popularity as you experiment with different word choices and structure.

Eightfold Logic plans to use the new funds from this round to market InboundWriter. The $2 million Series C funding brings the company’s total funds raised to nearly $20 million.
