Microsoft acquires Skype for $8.5 billion; more social gaming companies getting funded

Content delivery service Limelight Networks acquired AcceloWeb (formerly FasterWeb), a software solution that speeds up the loading time of Web pages. The terms of the deal were not disclosed

 Clearspring, provider of social content sharing platform AddThis, closed a $20 million Series D led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP).

Zynga announced that Ricardo Quesada and Rolando Abarca, key contributors to the renowned cocos2d for iPhone open source project, are joining the company.

 

Social game developer Funzio secured $20 million in a Series A financing round led by IDG Ventures in the US and IDG Capital Partners in China.

 

LiquidSpace, the mobile application that helps anyone find a great space to work, secured $3.6 million of new funding in a Series A round led by Shasta Ventures with follow-on participation from FloodGate.

Social advertising platform LocalResponse announced its new brand platform, an advertising network that uses all manner of social interactions, including check-ins and status updates, to help brands reach local customers.

 

PayNearMe, the cash payment solution that allows users to make online transactions with cash, announced a bundle of new initiatives today, which all point to the versatility of PayNearMe’s platform.

Proformative, an online resource for corporate finance executives, raised Series A funding of $1.1 million led by Bullpen Capital and Mike Maples of Floodgate

Social gaming studio Row Sham Bow raised $3 million from early stage venture capital firm Intersouth Partners.

Microsoft entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Skype for $8.5 billion in cash from the investor group led by Silver Lake.

 

Russian search engine Yandex (YNDX) priced shares for its initial public offering on NASDAQ at $20 to $22 per share, with plans to raise as much as $1.2 billion.
