Play Hard Sports, an online sports network in its beta stage, raised $8 million in funding today, according to this report.  Funding was backed by New Enterprise Associates.

Founded by Jeff Anderson in 2008, Play Hard’s tagline is simple, “We Love Sports.”  Play Hard offers sports news, fantasy leagues, and multiplayer games.

Play Hard’s most recent blog update from September 15th, 2008 speaks of pre-production of an online football game,

“Smack in the middle of pre-production on our first major title here at Play Hard Sports, it’s not a stretch to say that we’re laying a little groundwork of our own. Right now, we’re plotting out plans for our game’s base feature set; everything from core mechanics to tools we’ll use to build things to the number of sound options in the music menu, everything single detail is getting a healthy dose of design lovin’ until it’s juuuust right.”

With Play Hard bringing aboard veterans from the 2K Sports team, we can expect some great gaming developments.

Play Hard is based out of Foxborough, Massachusetts – home of the New England Patriots.

Well I hope they're planning on building an in-game economy. I am an avid player of World of Warcraft and if they had something like wow gold it would make the game much more interesting and enjoyable. I hope the guys at Play Hard read this comment and consider!
