Google increases market share in October

Yahoo share inches up, MSN flat, AOL and Ask lose share

 Google continues to dominate in the search engine wars. In the month of October, the search giant increased its domestic market share to 63.1% from 62.9% in September. Yahoo's domestic share increased slightly to 20.5% while MSN was flat and AOL and Ask.com declined. Here's the breakdown from Imran Khan, an analyst at JP Morgan.

  • *  Google domestic core search market share was 63.1% in October, up from 62.9% in September. Google domestic core search volume growth of 29.6% Y/Y in October was a slowdown from September’s 38.6% growth and from 3Q’s 35.0% growth.

  • *  Yahoo! domestic core search market share increased to 20.5% in October from 20.2% in September. October domestic core search volume growth of 7.7% Y/Y was a slight increase from 7.1% in September and from 3.6% in 3Q.

  • *  MSN October domestic core search market share stayed flat at September’s 8.5%. MSN domestic core search volume was up 2.8% Y/Y in October, ahead of September’s 1.3% growth and 3Q’s 9.8% Y/Y decline.

  • *  AOL October domestic core search market share declined to 3.7% from 4.1% in September. AOL domestic core search volume was only up 1.1% Y/Y in October, trailing September’s 11.4% growth and 3Q’s 8.5% growth.

  • *  Ask Network domestic core search market share fell slightly, to 4.2% in October from 4.3% in September. Ask Network domestic core search volume was up 1.9% Y/Y, vs. 8.2% growth in September and 8.9% growth in 3Q.
