Transparent won two big Golden Globes for Amazon: Best Comedy and Best Actor

In 2013, as Netflix’s saw its original programming earn a collective 14 Emmy nominations, for shows like House of Cards, Arrested Development, and Hemlock Grove, I predicted that Amazon would follow Netflix's lead and gain some Emmy nominations. Instead, it got zero. Big swing and a miss for me!

It looks like I was a year early, though. If Sunday's Golden Globes telecast was any indication, the site has a lot to look forward to when the next batch of Emmy's are given out later this year.

Amazon walked away with two Golden Globes statues. While that may not sound like much, they were two very big ones: its critically acclaimed shows Transparent won the award for "Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy,"  as did its star, Jeffrey Tambor, who won for "Best Actor in a TV Comedy."

Transparent revolves around a family, and how each member deals with the news that the patriarch is transgender.

The win for Best Comedy has to be especially sweet for Amazon, as it beat out Orange Is the New Black, from it's rival Netflix in their only head-to-head contest. Netflix saw only one win during the ceremony, when Kevin Spacey picked up the award for "Best Actor in a TV Drama" for House of Cards; the show was also nominated for  "Best Actress in a TV Drama." Orange Is the New Black also had three nominations.

Amazon debuted its first original series in November of 2013, with a sitcom called Alpha House, starring John Goodman. It also green lit two dramas: Bosch, based on Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch book series, and The After, written and directed by Chris Carter, though that show has since been cancelled.

In all, eight series have debuted over the last year and half, but the site struggled to gain the critical, or cultural, traction that Netflix was able to with its much buzzed about shows, at least until the debut of Transparent last year. Now that show has a legitimate shot to make history do what no other Internet TV service has been able to: take home the big prize at the Emmy Awards.

Of course, there was more than just Amazon's win at the Golden Globes, and for more let's turn to Twitterto see what everyone was talking about.

In all, 2.6 million Tweets were sent out about the show, with the three most Tweeted about celebrities beind co-hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, followed by George Clooney, who was given the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award.

The three most Tweeted about moments during the broadcast were when “Glory," the song from MLK biopic Selma, won Best Original Song; when Matt Bomer won "Best Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series," for The Normal Heart; and when Billy Bob Thornton won "Best Actor in a Mini-Series" for Fargo.
