Funding roundup - week ending 1/10/14

Mashable, Aereo, Bee Cave Games, Iwoca, Ifbyphone, Peak all raised funding this week

Seed stage

VitalFields, a platform for farm management, raised €500,000 in follow-on funding from SmartCap, with participation from TMT Investments, Wiser Financial Advisors, Arvi Tavast, Ahti Heinla and Andres Kull.

Music social network Whyd, which lets users curate music tracks from sites like YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion, raised $700,000 from private France-based investors.

OnTheGo Platforms, maker of software platform to power apps on smart glasses, raised $700,000 from  Foundry Group, SK Ventures, Rogue Venture Partners, Social Leverage, Portland Seed Fund and GMO Cloud.

Customer-service software provider ROBIN raised a second round of seed funding of $1 Million from Batman B.V.

The Eye Tribe, which develops hardware that allows users to control technology with the motion of their eyes raised  $1 million in seed funding from existing investors, board members and key individuals, including Richard Sanquini.

Commerzpoint Networks, the company behind healthcare marketplace Medypal, raised around $400,000 in seed funding from Unitus Seed Fund.

Bee Cave Games, developer of the Bee CaveBlackjack Casino, raised $1.9 Million in seed funding from MatrixPartners and Dragonrise Capital. 

Marketing technology company Ifbyphone raised $9 million in Series D funding. The round was led by River Cities Capital Funds, with Apex Venture Partners, Origin Ventures, I2A and SSM partners also participating. 

 

Early stage

ThisCLICKS, the company behind business software products When I Work and WageBase, raised $4 million in Series A funding from E.ventures, Greycoft and Arthur Ventures.

News website Mashable raised a $13.3 million Series A round, which was led by Updata Partners. The funding also came from New Market Ventures Partners, Social Starts, Michael and Kass Lazerow, Elio Leoni Sceti, and David Jones.

Drive, an Uber-like service based in France, raised $2.7 million (€2 million) in Series A funding from undisclosed business angels and institutional investors.

Yotpo, a product reviews system for eCommerce websites, raised a $10.7 million round led by Blumberg Capital. Rhodium, Gandyr Group, Oliver Jung, 2B Angels, Magna Capital Partners, Plus Ventures, Zohar Gilon and several undisclosed strategic investors also participated.

Translation service OneHourTranslation raised $10 million in Series A from Fortissimo Capital. 

Mobile money transfer service Remitly raised a $5.5 million Series A round of funding, led by QED, with existing investors also participating.

Omicia, an analytical genome interpretation company, closed $6.8 million of Series A financing led by Artis Ventures. Acadia Woods Partners, Bay City Capital, Buchanan Investments, and Casdin Capital also participated. 

Soft Tissue Regeneration, a medical device company that develops new technologies for the regeneration of soft tissue, raised $5 million in financing. Connecticut Innovations and Launch Capital led the round with participation from The Vertical Group

Plated, a food delivery company that supplied the ingredients and directions rather than pre-cooked food, raised $5 million round led by ff Venture Capital with participation from Lerer Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Founder Collective, and angels.

Digital education company digedu, which focuses on transitioning schools from textbooks to technology, raised $2.5 million from 7wire Ventures.

CO Everywhere, a mobile app that lets users follow locations around the world and see the social activity occuring in that area, raised $6 million in funding. Morningside Group led this round, with participation from angel investors.

Amitree, the company behind Closing Time, which aims to simplify the process of buying a home, raised $2.7 million from Accel Partners, Jerry Yang, Gideon Yu, Vish Makhijani, Zod Nazem, Ash Patel, Rob Chandra, and Owen Van Natta.  

Glooko, a creator of a tracking device that focuses on patients with diabetes, raised $7 million from Samsung Venture Investment Company, Lifeforce Ventures, The Social + Capital Partnership, Sundeep Madra and Yogen Dalal.

Iwoca, which provides short-term loans to online retailers based in the UK, raised £5 million ($8.2 million) from Global Founders Capital, Redline Capital Management and all existing investors.

Cloud provider Peak closed $4 million in financing from Meritage Funds and Sweetwater Capital.

 

Late stage

Zephyr Health, a big data analytics company for the health industry, raised $15 million in a round co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Jafco Ventures. 

View, creator of smart windows and dynamic glass, raised $100 million from Madrone Capital Partners.

Broadcast-television streaming service Aereo closed a $34 million Series C round of financing from IAC, along with Gordon Crawford, Himalaya Capital Management, Highland Capital Partners, FirstMark Capital and others.

MobStac, a startup that helps publishers build and manage their mobile websites and apps, raised $2 million in Series B funding from Accel Partners and Cisco.

Oscar, a new health insurer that says it will use technology will make it easier to connect with health care providers, raised $30 million in a round led by the Founders Fund, along with Thrive Capital, Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst Partners.

CAN Capital, which gives small businesses access to credit and working capital, raised $33 million in funding led by Meritech Capital Partners with participation from Accel Partners, Ribbit Capital and QED Investors.

Data technology company Radius raised $13 million in financing. The round was led by Formation8 Partners.
