The company manufactures and designs high-performance LED lights for commercial and public buildings

Lumenpulse, a company that manufactures LED lights for commercial buildings and urban environments, on Monday announced a $16 million Series A round led by private investors, with participation from Lumenpulse’s management team and board of directors.  The company has also secured a term loan and line of credit from Silicon Valley Bank.

Founded in 2006, the company has made a name for itself in the high-performance, sustainable lighting industry.  In 2011, the Montreal-based company won an Innovation Award at Lightfair and two PIA Gold Medals awarded by Architectural SSL Magazine.  And among Lumenpulse’s recent projects are BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, the Yale-New Haven Hospital atrium, the "Lantern of Hope" at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, AZ, and the BMW US Headquarters in New York.

And Lumenpulse has proven that its lighting solutions can balance sustainability with aesthetics.  At the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, which features a four-story latticed glass tower (pictured above), Lumenpulse took the local desert climate (the center is in Arizona) and the unique structure of the tower itself into consideration before strategically mounting the luminaires to provide even lighting across the entire structure.  The result is a 69-foot-tall glowing lantern-like tower that has since been dubbed the “Lantern of Hope.”  And the entire structure is lit exclusively with LED lights.

"The LED fixtures market is projected to triple over the next three years, reaching $9B by 2014 according to Strategies Unlimited,” said Lumenpulse founder and CEO François-Xavier Souvay.  “Based on the growing worldwide opportunity for our products, we are now focused on bringing the vision of the company to life for our clients, with cutting-edge architectural LED fixtures that meet the needs of architects and lighting designers from a design, performance and a sustainability perspective.”

The new funds from this round will be used to expand Lumenpulse’s presence in the international market, ramp up product development, and scale manufacturing strategies and capacities with increasing demand.
