At Vator's Splash event, we always try to keep the networking and fun going by bringing you interesting bands to perform for the afterparty. We've always had bands filled with rock star VCs by day and jamming rockers by night. We're doing it again for Vator Splash LA this Thursday evening (May 26) at The Highlands Hollywood.
Do you want to see a couple venture capitalists from Walden Venture Capital and DFJ Frontier, as well as a digital media entrepreneur, do their rendition of Deep Purple's Hush and tunes from The Rolling Stones? Darwin5 will be performing during the afterparty, starting at 9:30 pm.
Darwin5 consists of Larry Marcus, a partner at Walden Venture Capital and board member of Pandora, as well as David Cremin, a partner at DFJ Frontier, Evan Lowenstein, founder of StageIt,and was recently name Digital Media Wire’s list of 25 Execs to Watch in Digital Entertainment for 2011, and other musicians. You can watch them during the afterparty or you can also mingle with them and other top VCs attending the Splash event, which kicks off at 4 pm this Thursday.

When did you start playing an instrument? Violin in 2nd grad, then baritone horn and three months with a guitar before getting drums at age 13.
Do you secretly want to be a rock star? I play with Cremin, so I must be an acutal rock start. I love the great gear, sound systems, lighting and audiences that would go with the dream. So most definitely.
Who's your favorite artist? You can see hundreds of tracks bookmarked here www.pandora.com/people/larry. The theme is funky, great grooves. Most recently been into Zeppelin again, Bob Marley, Stanton Moore and Galactic, Motown.
What's your favorite song you like to perform? I’ll go with Hush, Born on A Bayou, Hard to Handle. Maybe we need to play China --->Rider too.
Did you play in your high school band? Yes. The jazz band.
How is performing onstage, similar to performing your jobs? Like a drummer, I'm keeping the beat and supporting the band - not the lead guy. I do it for love of the song, not just my part.
Favorite genre? Funk and classic rock.
What songs will you be performing at Splash LA? Hush (Deep Purple), Stay with me (Rod Stewart & Faces). Some Rolling Stones and more!

How is performing onstage, similar to performing your jobs? It requires coordinating a team of people; keeping your cool and operating smoothly. When you hit a bumb, you have to overcome it and work around it.
Favorite genre? Classic rock and song-driven music.
What songs will you be performing at Splash LA? Hush by Deep Purple. And depending on how the night unfolds maybe a few more. ;)
