Vidli makes money through selling and renting videos. Doing this requires that we (1) identify the types of videos for which consumers are willing to pay, (2) acquire those videos to be licensed through Vidli, and (3) market, promote, and sell/rent those videos. Nathaniel is our technical co-founder and guides the vision, development, and delivery of the Vidli platform. He:
• Founded the first Ruby on Rails conference in the world held in Vancouver, Canada as featured in Wired.
• Has 13 years of enterprise software development and management experience
• Directed teams up to 20 developers with 3M+ budgets for Startups and Fortune 500 companies
• Is an expert with all facets of web technology (Rails/Java/PHP/.NET/AJAX/CSS/Flash/Flex), user experience & information architecture, systems administration & automation, web analytics & enterprise marketing strategies.
Michael oversees corporate strategy and all financial and legal matters for the company. He has:
• Raised money for startup companies from over 30 accredited investors
• Served a term at the FASB researching and writing accounting standards
• Holds BBA and MS in Accountancy degrees from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, graduating valedictorian of both classes

IP and defensibility
One of our strategies when taking the VIdli service to market is to position it as a "hip and fun" brand (ala the Blue-Footed Booby) that is easily identifiable as the place to buy, sell, and rent any kind of video. To protect our brand equity, we have filed federal trademark applications for the "Vidli" word mark and the image of our "Blue-Footed Booby" logo. Both are pending with the USPTO.
We are also in the process of filing and obtaining patents for our anti-piracy solution, licensing model, and key algorithms. Our algorithms are designed to (1) determine the types of content to acquire for sale/rent on Vidli, (2) drive sales (from external sites and our own), and (3) price videos with a pre-determined margin (assuring we cover our costs on every single video transaction).
