Vestal Design is about creativity. Our designers come from a diverse background of architecture, art, programming, engineering, history, and environmental studies. Our three independent divisions regularly exchange ideas and share projects.
Vestal considers itself an environmentally responsible firm, and has consistently sought to work with environmental
firms as well as donated time to environmental efforts. Vestal began as an ecological product design firm, and continues
to offer green design business and design consulting to a variety of clients. Having recently reorganized and
opened offices in both Boulder, Colorado and Lima, Peru, Vestal is currently reassessing its energy and resource
use, and will soon be purchasing carbon offset credits for all of its operations.
In Vestal Design studios we emphasize a culture of off-the-wall excitement, where designers are free to argue about fonts, build prototypes, and pursue their own projects.
Dave Pitman is Vestal’s interaction design guru, constantly thinking about how to improve user experience. His strong computer science background means he is also Vestal’s technology director.
At MIT, David performed research in three different labs across three different departments of the Institute. His research included designing informational displays for complex multi-variable optimization problems for the Department of Defense, as well as a user interface for diagnosing sketches of patients with dementia. For his work on this user interface, David received the 2006 Licklider UROP award from MIT’s Computer Science Department, and his work has been featured in the magazine Technology Review. David received a B.S. from MIT in Computer Science and Engineering, with an emphasis in Artificial Intelligence. Currently, he is deferring enrollment into MIT’s M.Eng. graduate program, where he will be continuing work on user interaction and human factors.
David is also a former USA Canoe/Kayak Team member, and continues to coach high school athletes in kayaking. He studies architecture history and foreign language in his free time.
