Company description
Saathi has developed a biodegradable sanitary pad made from banana fiber to reduce sanitary pad waste and increase low-income and rural women's access to sanitary pads. Banana fiber is one of the most absorbent natural fibers and abundant in India. Our pads are designed with wings and unlike conventional sanitary pads, they do not contain any bleach or chemicals that can irritate skin. Most importantly, Saathi pads degrade within 6 months of disposal, 100 times faster than conventional pads, and eliminate the need for incineration, reducing CO2 production. We eliminate 60 kg of waste per woman in her lifetime. Saathi positively impacts women, agriculture, and the local economy. We locally source all of our raw materials, including the banana tree fiber, providing Indian farmers additional income each harvest. We create employment opportunities in pad production for local women. Saathi employs a subsidy model that makes sanitary pads affordable to low-income women, funded by our urban market sales. Our women-led team are all MIT graduates and have experience in a number of functions across product design, manufacturing, NGO management, and business development. We are based in Ahmedabad, India and have 17 employees.
