  • About
Company description

Life Length (www.lifelength.com) is a European diagnostic testing company, headquartered in Madrid, which sells the world’s most precise and scalable telomere length measurement reports and services. The technology is the result of more than five years of development by the Spanish National Cancer Research Institute which has invested c. $15 million to develop the techniques exclusively licensed to Life Length.  The Company has significant IP that is not easily replicated and has been conceded US Patent US8084203 for its Telomapping technology for tissue measurement.

Telomeres are structures on the end of chromosomes, which ensure their stability during the process of cellular replication. Telomere length is the best known indicator of the aging process

Our service is based on selling telomere measurement reports for individuals and corporate clients (industry and academic research in R&D, product development and clinical trials)

We are focused on introducing and rapidly establishing telomere testing as a new biomarker and health indicator for individuals and to become an essential tool for clinical trials and R&D across multiple industries (i.e. pharma / biotech, skin / cosmetics, nutrition / nutraceutical and academic research).

Life Length already has clients in both individuals and corporate segments, had sales of $300,000 in 2010 and expects to do over $3 million in 2011.

Life Length’s technology is a crucial biomarker on par with cholesterol testing which is a $1.5 billion test globally and c.$400 million in the U.S. alone (at the lab level).

The Company is seeking to raise c. $8 - $10 million to fund its expansion in its lab facilities and staff as well as to fund sales & marketing / business development and for general corporate purposes in a Series A round.

Life Length is based in Europe, but the Company is open to move its headquarters and lab facilities to any other strategic location.

Team
Business model

Life Length provides commercial telomere measurement and services to industry (pharma / biotech, skin care / cosmetic, nutrition / nutraceutical, academic) both the consumer market through major distribution partners to physicians.

Competitive advantage

Currently, Life Length possesses world-leading technology that no other company has.  This technology is the result of more than five years of development by the Spanish National Cancer Research Institute which has invested c. $15 million to develop the techniques exclusively licensed to Life Length.

We believe that we possess significant IP that is not easily replicated and have been conceded US Patent US8084203 for our Telomapping technology for tissue measurement.

There are only two companies besides Life Length that offer commercial telomere measurement, both using older and far less precise techniques, neither of which can measure the % of critically short telomeres which is the primary cause of cell senescence which drives aging and therefore a crucial differentiating factor.

The first is Spectracell, a privately-held Houston, TX based lab that offers average telomere measurement using qPCR.

The second is Repeat Diagnostics, based in Vancouver, which offers telomere measurement using Flow FISH, which is not scalable.

There is a new company called Telome Health, founded by Nobel Laureate Elizabeth Blackburn based in Menlo Park, CA which has announced that they intend to offer commercial service (also with qPCR) but they are in the market yet.
