KitchenNetwork is a multi-browser, cross-platform app that empowers cooks everywhere to publish, discover and share their favorite recipes.
The Problem
1) On the digital publishing side, it’s not easy to have your recipes discovered, published and distributed as an app (or across other platforms) affordably and professionally.
2) On the consumer side, there’s no current digital/tablet-optimized resource to manage and share your existing recipes or be exposed to new, high-quality ones – all in one place.
The Solution
1) KitchenNetwork not only provides an easy-to-use, affordable and feature-rich recipe specific platform to do so professionally, but also the network and community to distribute and grow an audience.
2) KitchenNetwork allows you to organize, discover and share recipes in a whole new way. Customers are able to follow their favorite chefs, bloggers and friends to discover new content as well as manage and share their favorite recipes in one place. In addition, these cooks can publish their own “personal recipes’” as an app.
Competitive advantage
We view our competitors in two camps: 1.) App creation platforms & digital publishing companies and 2.) recipe Apps & websites.
To date, no one has built a company that combines all of the above – namely, a platform to specifically publish recipe Apps and then aggregate them under one “storefront.” KitchenNetwork also includes broader recipe management solutions and a recommendation engine for discovery based online preferences – all wrapped with a unique social layer for the consumer.

Team
Doug Collister: was the Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Foodbuzz, the largest online food property in 2010 with over 4,500 food blog partners, 60 million monthly page views, 9 million monthly UUs, and providing advertising solutions for endemic food brands, and DinnerBroker, the pioneer in restaurant revenue management. Both Foodbuzz and DinnerBroker were acquired by Federated Media, Inc. in December of 2010. He has almost 15 years of restaurant management and marketing experience prior to entering the online world, including the COO of the Blue Chalk Restaurant Corporation's eight restaurants, as well as management positions with the Kimpton Group and J. Walter Thompson advertising. He has a BA in Government from Dartmouth College.
Judih Choate: is a writer, chef and pioneer in the promotion of American food with over 40 years of experience in the culinary world. As a writer, Judie is a multiple James Beard award winner who has authored or co-authored (with many of America’s leading chefs) over 100 books. Through her company, Custom Cuisine, Judie works as a consultant in product development, most specifically creating lines (both recipes and actual production) of restaurant quality specialty food products and entrées for commercial distribution as well as in marketing, restaurant development, and culinary presentations. In this capacity, she has been consultant to such internationally-known chefs as Charlie Trotter, David Burke, and Charlie Palmer as well as to such companies as Heinz, Starbucks and Costco.
Denice Dade M.B.A: is a solution-oriented consultant with over ten years of experience developing strategic and innovative initiatives with Fortune 500 companies, startups and NGOs. She has expertise in creating value through strategic business management and has managed complex application development with clients such as Hewlett Packard. She has exceptional leadership and communication skills and technical experience with business consulting, marketing, public relations.
Business model
Revenue Model:
KitchenNetwork generates revenue via three avenues:
- One-time “app publishing” fee
- Revenue share on all sold apps (20-50 recipes in each app priced from $.99-$4.99 per app) created on our platform. Please note that at least 20% of all recipes will be available for free (freemium model). KitchenNetwork will produce multiple recipes apps under our brand, and to date, we have three apps (ChickenKitchen, KidKitchen & SummerKitchen) with over 100 recipes that will be ready to share at Vator Splash,
- Content (recipe, photo and video) production for recipes in apps. This is not required, and is priced per app spec.
We are also considering a monthly subscription model with unlimited access to all KN Apps, and, once our reach is large enough, advertising and sponsorships.
Marketing & Distribution:
Our unique model leverages our partner publishers to market to their loyal, engaged audience –creating KitchenNetwork customers who are an aggregate of all our publishers’ audience. Consumers download the KitchenNetwork app for free and then select the specific publisher recipes they want to purchase, thereby dramatically increasing the number of KitchenNetwork downloads and increasing our app ranking.
KitchenNetwork’s publishers build our creditability with name recognition and personal endorsements via promotional tools like Gadgets embedded directly on their websites/blogs, QR Codes and Alerts. This free marketing, via our partners, quickly builds traction leading new users to the KitchenNetwork.
KitchenNetwork’s “freemium” model (20% of all recipes are free) allows users to engage and try new recipes before they buy. In addition, KitchenNetwork provides recipe management tools for free, thus building user loyalty. Our recommendation engine then inspires users with new ideas for people to follow and what to try based on their preferences and actions.
KitchenNetwork provides multiple levels for discovering and sharing new content: 1) across the entire KitchenNetwork, 2) within personal collections (MyKitchen), 3) within your KitchenNetwork (MyNetwork) of chefs, bloggers and friends and 4) across the web via social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.).
