Founded in 2002 by digital entrepreneur Nam Mokwunye, UDC's prime objective is to promote digital ventures that positively impact society. We envision a world in which digital access is a right that makes physical mobility a choice.
We are focused on Sub-Sahara Africa with first operations in Nigeria.
Nam Mokwunye, Founder/CEO: UDC is the brainchild of Nnamudi (Nam) Mokwunye, the Founder/CEO of UDC. Nam is a Reuters Digital Vision Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship at Stanford University. In the last 10 years Nam has focused on internet and telecommunications business strategy-particularly in the public access space. In 2001 he was a director in the team that developed BusyInternet, at that time the largest ICT center in Africa. Nam also ran the largest broadband fixed wireless access company in West Africa, managing 24 broadband licenses and initiating a multi-million dollar trade sale that recently closed. He also led the commercial rollout of Nigeria's first WiMAX services. Nam lived most of his life in the United States where he received a BA from Dartmouth College and an MFA/MBA from University of Massachussetts in Amherst. In the past, he has been the recipient of the Flavin Entrepreneurial Fellowship. Though he and his wife live in Abuja, Nigeria, Nam shuttles between Abuja and Stanford, California.
