Hyper Local Media is a new type of media company, an old-media/ new-media hybrid and we have a new take on local. We're all about community. Building community engagement, empowering local businesses... We're creating "the Main Street of the 21st century."
The Locable.com is a national network of community sites; if it’s likeable and local it’s Locable! Articles, events, business listings and reviews, daily deals and more. By working with many of the nations 1500 community magazines we’re able to leverage their readers and advertisers to hit the ground running while using social media and crowdsourcing to create a ton of fresh and relevant content that has an incredible for-us-by-us quality. Through a combination of collective discovery, content curation, and crowdsourcing we're Building Community Through Conversation.
Working with magazines helps us avoid having to overcome a cold start in each new market, we're able to maintain ongoing website visibility offline thanks to local presence through their print magazine and events business. Because of the natural synergies, we're able to simultaneously achieve scale and local relevance with a vastly superior cost structure and better content alignment with each community than web-only local plays.
While we launched our first site, http://harrisburgmagazine.com, in December we were included in some PR in November which you can find at: http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2010/11/city-magazines-expand-audience-and-revenues-with-web-apps319.html
You can find a link to each of our affiliates at http://locable.com
Here are a few buzz words that we like to drop to help us explain our approach:
We generate revenue through a variety of sources. The local nature of our community websites allows us to drive revenue through a combination of ad sales, business listings and daily deal activity. The local presence of our magazine partners allow us to do things a little differently than Yelp! and Groupon respectively while freeing us from having to staff an ever growing local sales force.
Clearly 'local' is a startup hot bed however most are trying to build a better mousetrap in terms of web-only experience. Our fundamental approach is to partner with established local media properties that have venerably served their communities for years. Through a dynamic partnership we achieve a superior cost structure, faster revenue growth, and a content experience (articles, events, business directory, deals, mobile etc) that is better suited for each community than is otherwise possible. The Locable.com brand itself will grow as a result of our national network of local sites and will become a mid-to-long term asset in terms of driving traffic and monetization.
