Company description
We specialize in the design and administration of computer adaptive tests for employment and educational purposes. After developing advanced technology for large IT and educational testing companies such as IBM and the Educational Testing Service, respectively, our staff has created the first multidimensional computer adaptive testing platform on the Internet. We are targeting the assessment testing industry, which is a $17 billion dollar market with double digit growth projections for the next few years.
Our Smart Test Technology ® is a second generation, artificially intelligent platform that searches, selects, administers, and scores test questions based upon multiple skills and abilities of an examinee. Older computer adaptive technology (e.g., for the SAT and the ASVAB) can only search, select, administer, and score questions on the basis of one skill or ability. With our platform, the testing process is shorter, scores are more accurate, and decisions are more efficient than ever before. In employment hiring, test results are available immediately for organizations with large applicant volumes. In education, score reports are instantly accessible to teachers and administrators who track student progress towards state accountability standards (i.e., No Child Left Behind and Race To The Top).
Team
Dr. Damon Bryant is a co-founder of Adaptive Assessment Services. He is an industrial and organizational psychologist with over 10 years of experience in the development, administration, and validation of Internet-based employment and educational assessment tools. He has worked with the Educational Testing Service, IBM, US Office of Personnel Management (US Investigation Services), and New Orleans Police Department. Dr. Bryant has published in the world's top psychological measurement journals, including Applied Psychological Measurement, Psychometrika, and the International Journal of Testing. His past honors and awards include IBM's Young Innovator Award for developing human resources software for use in emerging markets, American Psychological Association's Robert J. Wherry Award (Division 14) for research in the area of test bias, and a letter of commendation from the Louisiana State Senate for developing and administering an Internet-based video assessment tool for New Orleans Police Department after Hurricane Katrina. Dr Bryant is a member of the National Council on Measurement in Education and a McKnight Doctoral Fellow.
Dr. Larry Davis is co-founder of Adaptive Assessment Services. He researches cutting-edge methods, algorithms, software, and technologies for incorporation within the AAS assessment platform. He presently supervises an effort to incorporate artificial intelligence and advanced visualization within a web-based visual environment. Dr. Davis has more than 11 years of experience in research and development in virtual environments, mathematical modeling, visualization, and performance measurement architectures. Prior to joining Adaptive Assessment Services full-time, Dr. Davis was a Research Associate at the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida, where he led research and development efforts investigating learning and teamwork in virtual environments. While in that role, Dr. Davis supervised a team of software developers and interfaced directly with representatives from multiple Department of Defense agencies and prime contractors to achieve project results. Dr. Davis has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida and was a founding member of the Augmented Cognition Technical Group for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. He has co-authored one patent and 28 scholarly publications. Dr. Davis is also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and a McKnight Doctoral Fellow.
Business model
We develop and license our proprietary assessment tools and host educational/employment tests for our clients in an Internet-based environment. We also provide advanced research and development services (e.g., predictive modeling, job and task analysis, and validation studies) for large, medium, and small organizations for accountability purposes (e.g., EEOC, OFCCP, Race To The Top/ No Child Left Behind). We also license access to our walk-in assessment centers.
Competitive advantage
Our competitive advantage is in the following: (1) Our proprietary technology that uses advanced artificial intelligence for the assessment of human capabilities, (2) Our solid team of founders (former IBM and Educational Testing Services employees) with strong performance and professional publication records, (3) Our test advisors who have served on committees for evaluation of the US Department of Defense's Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and the Educational Testing Services' Graduate Record Exam (GRE), and (4) Our speed of research and development activity to create robust software solutions with advanced simulation and predictive modeling capabilities.
