The Mileage Performance Group is a company that designs, markets, and sells technology products that reduce the consumption of energy. With oil prices above $125/barrel, and global warming becoming a reality we can feel, consumers are increasingly concerned about both the environment and their pocketbook, and are looking for solutions.
Market research shows that people are willing to change their driving habits to lower fuel cost. But do they know what changes to make? Our first product is an electronic device that everyday drivers put in their car that will train them to drive more fuel efficiently. This product, called the MPG, or Mileage Performance Gauge, is roughly the size of a GPS and mounts on the vehicle's dash. It gives the driver real-time feedback (visual and audible) on their driving habits to coach them to make changes to optimize their fuel economy. In addition to the real time data, MPG provides summary data that includes best, average and optimal mileage performance. Our trials have shown that a driver can save 12-15% on fuel with the use of this device. The design is currently being submitted for patent disclosure.
The MPG device works by wirelessly connecting to the federally mandated diagnostic port of the automobile and retrieving real-time data. Using embedded software, the MPG unit deciphers this raw data into meaningful translations that are easily understood by the driver, who uses this information to adjust his / her driving habits. The product is designed to be installed directly by the customer with the assistance of pictorial instruction available on our website.
Why is our product better than the competition? Existing diagnostic scanners are typically very expensive, and are geared towards technically savvy consumers with the know-how to interpret the complicated data output of the software. Our product targets the average consumer who is interested in improving the fuel efficiency of his/her automobile, yet doesn't have the time or the know-how to deal with the high-end equipment. In addition, MPG is available at a low $115 price point, providing simple instructions to modify driving behaviors that can translate to immediate results.
Our target customer is "the commuter" - someone who drives to work at least 30 miles each day. The commuter stands to gain the most value from our product, and they can be marketed to while they are in their vehicle via radio ads during rush-hour, as well as billboard ads. With 81 million commuters in the United States and nearly four million commuters in Chicago alone, spending an average of 72 minutes a day in their vehicle and an average of $2300 on gas each year, this is a large and captive audience.
The company founder has 11 years of experience in automotive electronics with the engineering knowledge and experience to design and launch this product. The plan is to initially sell the product direct to customers through our website, while working to build our volume quickly to earn shelf space with the major electronics retailers. Thus, we are looking to hire the immediate need for a full time sales and marketing expert with proven success in the consumer electronics segment.
