Based in Cologne, Germany, BLUE LION mobile GmbH is a tech startup that offers new types of communication and entertainment for the mobile phone. They are independent and only develop solutions that work with all carriers and providers.

BLUE LION Mobile produces and distributes the mobile social-networking application “qeep.” Founded in 2006, the team is led by Cornelius Rost and Christian R. Schulte, who teamed up to head this venture after years of experience in the industries of telecommunications and hand-held devices.

QEEP

Released in 2006, qeep is a Java-based mobile social network, offering an interactive software bundle in one application. Scripted on the J2ME platform, The software design has a high compatibility rate: any mobile phone compatible with MIDP 2.0 is qeep-capable. Users connect through qeep’s various features, which include:

• QMS: qeep’s alternative to SMS. Messages are sent through a proxy server.

• Photoblogging: users can store and tag photos in the qeep server, which can then be shared with all other users.

• Live Gaming: qeep offers users live turn-based games, playable against anyone in the network. Current selections include “Battleships,” “Quadrix” and "TicTacToe" with additional games forthcoming.

• Sound Attacks: this feature is a database of humorous sound files that can be sent directly to friends’ phones. These sounds play instantly, the result being the recipient is usually caught off guard by the “attack.” Since the sound files are built into the network rather than actually compressed and sent, data transfer costs on this feature are negligible.

 

 

Business model

Qeep has two revenue streams: media sales and consumer sales.  Media sales consist of advertising and shopping links which are attractively placed within relevant pages of qeep.  Consumer revenue stem from the sales of unique and fun digital items as well as skill gaming fees.  In order to maintain its impressive growth rate, the download and usage of qeep will remain free.

Qeep's unique and easy to use interface provides an incredibly rich interactive experience between friends on their mobile phones.  Our recent growth rates also indicate that qeep has the depth of features that mobile users are looking for.  We are now also the only mobile social platform that offers an xHTML web version in addition to the Java application making it possible to target a broader market while giving every user the best possible mobile experience.

    Qeep is a great product. I am able to use it on both of my mobile phones and it easily passes the time while I am riding on trains or waiting in a queue. The user base is pretty diverse, too. Shortly after signing up, I had made two friends quickly with similar interests and music tastes - one in Spain and one in South Africa. Now I just have to get my family back in the U.S. to sign up on it so that we can message each other without the international charges.
