Company description
101 is reimagining the college STEM classroom with active learning tools that promote student engagement. We enable STEM instructors to easily integrate problem solving exercises into lectures that students to complete right on their personal devices. Unlike clickers or other digital response products that rely on generic multiple choice questions, we invent subject-specific modules with intuitive ways for students to learn and interact with problems. We recently launched our first product for chemistry courses, Chem101, and piloted with 2,000 students across 8 schools during the Fall 2016 semester including Carnegie Mellon, Columbia University, and the University of Cincinnati. All pilot faculty have now adopted Chem101 as a paid student requirement for their next course. In a post-pilot survey, 77% of students said they preferred Chem101 to any existing courseware and 40% said Chem101 made them more interested in chemistry after using it for just 2-3 weeks of the curriculum. In one case study, a 200% improvement in learning gains was measured for students who used Chem101 versus students who used traditional tools. With our pilot completed, we now aim to expand our approach across chemistry and into other STEM subjects including math, physics, biology, and economics.
